Cleveland High School (CHS) is one of ten high schools in the Portland Public School District. CHS is home to 1,400 students and is served by a dedicated and quality staff of teachers, administrators and support personnel who view learning as paramount, with the welfare of our students at the heart of our mission.

CHS athletics complement Cleveland High School’s academics program with an extensive offering of competitive team sports. Together, they provide students with the opportunity to develop mind, body and character for themselves, their team and their school:

The CHS Athletics Department's mission is to teach life skills to athletes. That teaching takes place before, during and after practices and competitions as athletes are challenged to:
    • put the team above individual accomplishments
    • cooperate with others
    • strive for excellence
    • work to condition their bodies in a safe yet dedicated manner
    • abide by school and Athletic Department expectations

Each of these goals will impact athletes while they attend CHS, and the Athletic Department strives to ensure that these goals will remain significant well into the future of each athlete's life.

Athletes who participate in CHS's athletic programs do so completely voluntarily. Participation does, however, require a commitment on each student's part with respect to:
    •
academic standing
    •
citizenship
    • o
bligations and responsibility to school and teammates

Therefore, the regulations presented on this site were adopted as a guide for everyone who desires to be a CHS athlete.
